Interview with Tommy 9 March, 2007 - 17:42
Who is the person that has helped you out the most in your professional
career?
My father and my mother without a doubt.
And in life?
Also. I believe that in your profession as well as in life they are always the
people who help you the most.
How do you define yourself as a tennis player?
Professional player, with a good condition , good aim, solid…
And as a person?
I’m a boy who likes his home, friends, shy, I like to do the simple things
any person my age likes, but overall being at home is what I like most.
What are your objectives for this season?
To be able to remain in the top ten would be very good and returning to the
Masters Cup would be exceptional.
What has been your best moment as a sportsman?
Last year without a doubt, to be at number 5, to win a Masters Series, to play
the Masters Cup and to finish the year as number 7 of the world was something
incredible.
And the worst?
When I was 14, 15 years old I had an injury to my back for a year, I believe
that there is nothing worse for a sportsman than to be injured
An anecdote.
I have not pulled many pranks so there are not many funny anecdotes, although
traveling like I do daily is something very special that merits explaining.
For that reason from time to time I write a blog on my Web page, where I tell
fans my experiences in the matches so people can know a little about it.
A dream.
To have a family and a very pretty house in the mountain with horses and to
enjoy seeing my children grow… I love children! Sportively speaking…
to always give my maximum on the court
A strange habit.
I am not obsessive about it, but I am a super organized boy…
A color.
Blue
Reading or music?
Music without a doubt, since I do not read anything more than magazines.
A film.
Braveheart, although lately in the cinema I liked Ilusionist, Blood Diamond
and some others.
Favourite food.
Sushi and sashimi
If you were not a tennis player, what would you be doing now?
I have no idea, I suppose I would be studying for something.
What’s your favourite thing about tennis…
No idea…. to compete, to try to surpass myself day after day…
And the least?
The travelling, being far from family and friends…
How do you look on television?
Horrible! I don’t think anyone looks good on television, and even my voice
when I speak… when I move it’s horrible! Jejeje
Rafa Nadal or Roger Federer.
As a tennis player Federer, to have dinner with, Rafa without a doubt
Which is your favourite tournament?
Barcelona, to be at home, to know that my family and friends can come and see
me.
And your least favourite?
The truth is that they treat us very well everywhere, so it is difficult to
say which one is worse….
When you’re not on court, to what do you dedicate your free time?
Being at home, sitting on the sofa, seeing friends, riding my quad,… I
don’t know, being quietly at home is the best thing!
Aside from Tennis. What other sports do you like?
Adventure sports, quad riding, soccer, golf,…
To finish off the interview I would like you to give some advice for the
young people who are starting out in the world of tennis.
I believe that when you are young you should play tennis if you like it, it
is a very good sport for the development, physically speaking. And if you are
doing well, look for good equipment and keep trying to improving and see where
it gets you … But overall enjoy the sport, that is the best thing.
